About this winery

The history of Château Pradeaux dates back to 1752 when Jean-Marie-Etienne Portalis, a lawyer and co-author of the French Civil Code, acquired the property. Nine generations later, Etienne Portalis continues the family legacy while evolving with the times. Certified organic since the 2023 vintage, Château Pradeaux showcases Mourvèdre, the flagship grape variety growing on 75% of the 22 hectares of vines.

Product notes

Very calcareous terrain, with red earth and rocks at ground level.

Production notes

Hand-harvested from September 7 to 14, 2023. A rosé produced by direct pressing, cold-settling between 12 and 14 degrees for 24 hours. It is then racked and transferred to temperature-controlled vats. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in cement or enameled steel vats for approximately 3 weeks under the action of indigenous yeasts. No malolactic fermentation. Aged on fine lees for 8 weeks.

Tasting notes

The color is pale and the nose is discreet, expressing a range of fruits ranging from peach to red berries to citrus, without forgetting the essential note of garrigue. It remains in the house style with well-pronounced tannins, and its beautiful bitterness will make it a very good gastronomic partner. Pairs well with fish, shellfish, and vegetable ratatouille

Kristen Bieler, November 2024 (Vintage 2023)

With its dark orange-magenta hue, this hefty rosé is not for casual poolside sipping. Gutsy in feel, with layers of bergamot, blood orange, rooibos tea and dried herbs. Though this is tightly coiled and structured, allowing a year of bottle age will allow this to achieve peak harmony and integration. Distinctive and well-made. Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2030.
