About this winery

The story of Vignobles Famille Courselle began in 1950, when André Courselle bought Château Thieuley and set about creating a vineyard. In 1972, his son Francis Courselle, then a young agricultural engineer and viticulture teacher, decided to accelerate the development of the vineyard. Product notes

This vintage pays tribute to Francis Courselle's fiftieth harvest at Château Thieuley. A unique vintage from the excellent 2018 vintage, made from 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Production notes

The wine is vinified in stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tank. The wine is then aged in 50% new, French oak barrels.

Tasting notes

Subtle notes of cinnamon on the initial nose, complemented with aeration by more generous aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. This is an expressive and well-constructed wine that reveals a sappy and long palate with well-integrated tannins. Pair with a rib of beef.

Yohan Castaing, November 2023 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Reserve Francis Courselle, matured for 12 months in French barrels, reveals a concentrated, deep bouquet with aromas of tobacco, spices, licorice, dark chocolate, flowers and pencil lead. It’s medium to full-bodied, broad, vibrant and possesses both a vinosity and a terrific freshness, adding up to a long, sapid finish. Time will only improve it.

Appealing density and richness to this with a medium body, ripe fruit, light tannins and a fresh finish.
