About this winery

On the edge of the Barolo appellation, you'll come across the Rivetto estate, 23 captivating hectares of planted vines, orchards and gardens. It remains committed to biodynamic agriculture and is currently the first Demeter-certified producer in the Barolo and Barbaresco zones. Enrico Rivetto is extremely committed to polyculture as a method of stabilizing and naturally enriching the vineyard.

Product notes

Briccolina was the pioneer vineyard for our biodynamic approach and is now the only Barolo cru granted with the Demeter certification. It is a vineyard-garden, entirely worked by hand.

Production notes

Vines altitude of 340 metres, exposure west and south-west. Highly clayey and chalky soil, with abundant presence of marl at a depth of 2 meters. Subalkaline soil. Aging of 36 months in oak barrels then 16 months in bottles.

Tasting notes

Fairly light garnet-red color. Earthy nose of wild red berries, undergrowth, wild mushrooms, licorice, cloves, black pepper, cocoa and cedar. Striking, slowly integrating acids and a rich, fine texture supported by wild berries and spices on the long finish.

November 2023 (Vintage 2018)

...This Barolo opens with darker fruit notes of black cherry and warmed raspberry. Wild herbs, dried leaf and cedar notes waft from the glass as it opens. The palate is brooding with roasted wild berries, black tea and savory spices giving way to an earthy finish and fine and firm tannins. Drink 2028–2045...

August 2023 (Vintage 2018)

The organic Rivetto dal 1902 2018 Barolo Briccolina is released one year later than its peers, following 36 months of aging in Swiss-made oak casks. Packaged in a bottle with a bright blue label, the wine shows a dark garnet appearance with slightly faded aromas of dried fruit and crushed flowers. This wine feels more mature compared to the 2019 Barolo, which has fruit from across Serralunga d'Alba, and the charming new Barbaresco Nervo. I would choose both of those wines over this top-shelf production, which closes with dry, dusty tannins and is more accessible overall. This is a 2,500-bottle release.
